If you were Tally, would you ask the Warden to make you pretty?
Yes. That way the promise made to Maddy would be kept. I would be scared but in order to test out the cure I would.

Blog Post #51 "Confessions"
Tally has finally come clean. Do you think she will regret it? Do you think David will change his mind on her?
I don't think Tally will regret it because she finally feels a big weight of her shoulders. I think David will not change his mind about her.

Should Maddy have forced Shay to take the "cure?" Why or why not?
No. The cure has some risks. Maybe Shay could have turned into a vegetable. Shay can chose to be cured because it's her life.

Yes i would because i'd rather know what's happening and try to save people. I don't think i'd be able to live not knowing the truth.

Respond to the following quote from the chapter... what does it mean to you? "Tally thought of the lesions on Shay's brain, the tiny cancers or wounds or whatever they are that she didn't even know she had. They were in there somewhere changing her friend's thoughts, warping her feelings, gnawing at the roots of who she was."
I think it's talking about how Shay's changing, how she's no the same. It's describing what Shay is going through. The changing of her brain in a cruel way.

4)They find out David's dad is dead

Blog Post #46 "Inside"
Is this quote a play on words, or does it have adeeper meaning to the story?
"Radiology. Neurology. Magnetic Imaging," she read softly. "Operating Theathre Two."
I think it has a deeper meaning. It kind of shows the horrors of becoming a pretty in a way.
What "labels" do Tally and David find in the Special Circumstances building? Give a BRIEF description of what you think each means.
Neurology- They study your nerves.
Radiology- Something to do with x-rays.
Magnetic Imaging- They make your face perfect and simmetrical.
Describe Shay's appearance at the end of the chapter using textual evidence.
"She was tall and elegant, every feature perfection. Her eyes-deep and soulful, flecked with copper and gold- widened with a troubled look."

In this chapter a few uglies go to New Pretty Town to do a "trick." They make the words "THE SMOKE LIVES" with sparklers. If you had ONE chance to post a message important to you, what would it be and why?
I would write "MOVE ALONG WHEN THINGS GET HARD" i would write this because it seems so motivational. This would be great for when you feel down.

The Uglies they met in this chapter are similar to Tally at the beginning of the book. When you compare her to these Uglies, how has Tally changed and what has made her change?
Tally seems mor mature than the little uglies because now she knows the truth. She knows what's behind the pretty operation. She's had more experience than them.

Do you think Tally's plan will work? David wants to save his parents, but what's driving Tally? Do you think she is crazy, or are her feelings valid?
Yes I think Tally's plan will work. I think what's driving Tally is guilt. She feels bad about everything she's done and wants to fix her doings. Her feelings are valid because she knows what she did wrong.

How do David and Tally describe the Rusties? Is it accurate?
They describe the Rusties as a horrible time period. They thought of Rusties as idiotic.
What are weaknesses of OUR society?
The pollution and over population.
What are weaknesses of THEIR society?
People are starting to see through their disguise. They'd go to the extreme to have a perfect society.

Blog Post #32 "The Secret"
What does the following quote tell you about the city and society in general?
"But you do know about genetics don't you? Sure i know all about genes. I knew two sister, uglies, who looked almost the same. But parents and children? That's just weird."
That's kind of weird. This tells me that in Uglyville the middle pretties children don't look like them. In our time parents genes are passed of to their offspring, so generally some of the children should look like their parents.
Predict what you think being "pretty" is.
Being a pretty means having a symmetrical face and being able to go to all the best parties. You get to rule yourself and you don't have to THINK about much except having fun.

Find an example of imagery, personification and simile. Quote directly and give page numbers.
Imagery- "They walked through the Smoke, past cook fires being extinguished with shovelfuls of dirt; windows coming alight with candles and electric bulbs; and a handful of young uglies pursuing and escaped chicken." pg.245
Personification-"Tally looked away, trying to drown her uncanny pretty feelings in the sea of white weeds." pg.251
Simile-"But the image in her mind didn't give Tally the thrill it usually did; it just fell flat, like a song she'd heard too many times." pg.250
Does it require bravery to meet David's parents, why or why not?
Yes because Tally might feel guilty about meeting David's parents before Shay. Also, because they're the founders of the smoke. They're uglies and Tally doesn't like seeing old uglies.

Do you think Shay has a right to be jealous of Tally? Why or why not?
No. Tally didn't know much about Shay and David. Tally just thought of David's gift as a small present for her. Shay's probably upset because Tally seems to be more interesting than she is.
Tally received a gift from David in the chapter that is special. Have you ever received something that made others jealous as this gift did? Did your gift have a meaning behind it as Tally's had?
No. Not really. My gifts are just gifts that don't have much meanind behind it like Tally's.

If David's parents were doctors, Why do you think they ran away? Support your answer with textual evidence.
Maybe they found out something bad about the operation. They probably ran away because they feared they knew too much about a secret.
"Tally tired to get her mind to process his words." You mean, they never did the third operation? They still look middle, even though they're crumblies?"
"No, Tally. I told you: They're doctors."

Yes. One time when i was little i got really sick so my parents took to the doctor and they recommended i take some prescripted medicine. When i tasted the medicine it tasted so bad i could barely drink 1 spoonful. I knew i had to drink it to feel better but it seemed so hard because it was so nasty.About a week later i felt all better thanks to the medicine but i still hated the medicine.

What does the following quote from the chapter tell you about the city?
"That was one thing about being outside the city: It made all that nature stuff they taught at school seem a lot more useful. She remembered now how rainwater fell on the mountains and soaked into the ground.."
Since the uglies live in a high-tech city they don't usually get to see anything real. Thy live in a city that consists of pure technology and barely anything you see there is natural. They barely see mountains, trees, and many other things that are part of nature.

Blog Post#11"The Rusty Ruins"
Write a one paragraph summary of the chapter. Tell the important events in chronological order
1) Tally and Shay sneak out to the Rusty Ruins.
2) Shay and Tally pass by the Rusty Ruins and look at what life was back then.
3) Shay shows Tally a roller coaster for the first time.
4) Tally has to promise to keep a secret.
Find two similes in this chapter and quote them, as well as the page number.
"Every building sported jagged spurs of metal sticking from its broken walls, like bones jutting from a long-dead animal." pg.62
" It was like a hover board course made solid, complete tight, banked turns, sharped climbs followed by long drops, even loops that took Tally upside down, her crash bracelets activating to keep her on board." pg.64(roller coaster)

Blog Post #10 "Rapids" p.53
In this chapter Tally says, "I kind of like being fooled about some things." Do you agree with Tally, or would you rather know the reality behind everything? Why?
I don't agree with Tally because i wouldn't want to be living my life a lie. I'd rather know what was real than living as a fake. If i'm ever lied to I feel betrayed.
Origin of white water rafting:
Back in 1958 when Jack Currey used to build rafts made from balsa wood to float Southern Utah's San Juan River, class IV and V whitewater was considered too risky to run recreationally. He decided that rubber army surplus rafts would much better handle the trials of whitewater as they did not get water-logged over time. However, after only a few trips it was readily apparent that the rubber rafts had their flaws as well. Because the rafts would fill with water in the bigger rapids, a continuous bailing effort was required, and on occasion the floor would tear on the jagged rocks.
One such occasion on a challenging section of the San Juan, a Currey guide accidentally tore the entire rubber floor out of his raft, leaving a suspended wooden floor hanging from the boat frame. The accident enabled the raft to self-bail itself through the entire whitewater expedition, giving the passengers a dry, safe, and comfortable ride.
Thus, river rafting history was made with the introduction of the first self-bailing rowing raft that has since revolutionized the river rafting industry.

Blog Post #9 "Pretty Boring"p.46
Describe the Rusty Ruins. What are they? What happened during this time period?
"Real Trees, hundred of years old Mountains. The Rusty Ruins were the remains of an old city, a hulking reminder of back when there'd benn way too many people, and everyone was incredibly stupid"
Define peer pressure. Think of a time when it happened to you or someone you know and explain the situation in a paragraph.
Peer pressure is being forced into doing something that you don't want to do.
I've never actually been pressured into doing something. If i'm ever pressured i usually ignore it. I'm never really peered pressured because i don't think that i notice it.

Reflect on the following quotes from the chapter, what does each mean to you?
"Making ourselves feel ugly is not fun."..
This whole games is just designed to make us hate ourselves."
1)Classifying each other
"Everyone judged everyone else based on their appearance. People who were taller got better jobs..people killed one another over stuff like having differenct skin color"(referring to when everyone was ugly)
2) People wanted to see who was better.
"It's the only way to make people equal"(becoming pretty)
3) This way people wouldn't kill or want to be better than others.

Think of another, book, movie or comic(exc) in which people use hover boards. How are they used?If possible, post a video of this.
In this movie i watched they used hover boards as a way of transportation.

Why do you think the new pretty's don't come back to Uglyville to visit?Describe their physical and mental transformation into new pretties.
I think that the new pretties don't visit Uglyville because they think they're too pretty. After the operation they're so perfect and they return to Uglyville they'd feel so out of place.

Blog Post#6 "Shay"p.23
Write a one paragraph summary of the chapter.
Tally manages to escape from "New Pretty Town" with the help of Paris. While Tally is trying to escape she comes across a person. Tally thinks that this person is an officer. She finally tries to see who this is and finds out that it's a girl named Shay. Tally tells Shay about what she's doing in "New Pretty Town".
What have you learned about Shay?Is she like Tally?Make a prediction about what will happen between Tally and Shay.
Shay's adventurous and a dare devil like Tally. Shay seems so free spirited. I think that Tally and Shay are going to become friends because they're alike in so many ways.

Blog Post#5"Best Friends Forever"
Why do you think "New Pretty Town" advocates bungee jumping?
I think that since all the people are now prettys and they don't have to follow some of the ugly rules they feel free to do whatever they want. It's probably something that most prettys do. If they bungee jump it's another great thing that they get to do as a pretty ,so they probably do it to get a thrill ride they couldn't get before.
History of Bungee Jumping:
Bungee Jumping was originally an ancient ritual or right of passage for the "vine jumpers" of Pentecost Island in the Pacific Ocean Vanuatu group. Every year, the men of the island's tribe build large wooden towers, over 80 feet high.
They then carefully select vines from the jungle which they then tie to their ankles before jumping off the top of the towers.

Blog Post#4 "Best Friends Forever''
Characterization of Tally:
She's almost sixteen and so close to finally being a pretty. Taller than most pretties and her weight is a little more than an average pretty. Has a scar on her hand. Is very daring because she takes risks in life such as sneeking over to "New Pretty Town".
Characterization of Paris: Is sixteen and three month older than Tally. Has barely turned into a pretty. His appearence is now flawless because of being a pretty. Now lives in "New Pretty Town". Used to be friends with Tally.
How do you fell about the friendship of Tally and Paris? Are they true "best friends"?Why or why not?
I think that Tally and Paris's frienship is not working out because Paris is now a pretty and Tally is still an Ugly so they're not on the same level in the book. I think that they're still kind of like friends because he still cares about her but now it's kind of hard to communicate with eachother.

Blog Post#3 "New Pretty Town"(#2)
Find and quote one Oxymoron from the chapter or one example of Irony.
"safety sparklers"
This is an example of an oxymoron because usually sparklers are not safe because they warn you to be careful so you don't accidentaly burn yourself.
Why do you think Tally chose to wear a mask to the party that was deemed "white tie?"
I think that Tally forgot that the party was white tie until people started talking about her and also because she didn't want anyone to see her or else they would have found out she was an ugly.
History of masks:
a form of disguise. It is an object that is frequently worn over or in front of the face to hide the identity of a person and by its own features to establish another being. This essential characteristic of hiding and revealing personalities or moods is common to all masks. As cultural objects they have been used throughout the world in all periods since the Stone Age and have been as varied in appearance as in their use and symbolism.

Have you ever had a friend like Paris who abandoned your friendship after moving?
No. Everytime anyone that i've known has moved they weren't really my friends they were people i didn't know. My friends have always stayed with me no matter what. The friends i have would never abandone our friendship.
Terms:
1.Interface ring- a special ring that's like a device that allows you to acess anything complicated or technological.
2.Toothbrush Pill- a small pill that you chew so you can clean your teeth instead of brushing your teeth.
3.Cacophony- a mixture of noises

Blog Post#1 Before Reading
How do you define beauty? What would the world be like if everyone was "beautiful"?
I define beauty as being interesting, unique and different. If everyone was beautiful the world would be different because people wouldn't judge each other. Then again it would be kind of boring because we would all probably look the same to each other.

I think that the butterfly is beautiful because it's so colorful and its extraordinary. The butterfly is also beautiful because its unique and there's nothing like it. The beetle compared to the butterfly seems ugly because it doesn't have any colors. The beetle seems normal and boring. The beetle would probably look beautiful if it were different, colorful and extraordinary.
