Blog Post #32 "The Secret"

What does the following quote tell you about the city and society in general?

"But you do know about genetics don't you? Sure i know all about genes. I knew two sister, uglies, who looked almost the same. But parents and children? That's just weird."

That's kind of weird. This tells me that in Uglyville the middle pretties children don't look like them. In our time parents genes are passed of to their offspring, so generally some of the children should look like their parents.

Predict what you think being "pretty" is.

Being a pretty means having a symmetrical face and being able to go to all the best parties. You get to rule yourself and you don't have to THINK about much except having fun.

Blog Post #31 "Bravery"

Find an example of imagery, personification and simile. Quote directly and give page numbers.

Imagery- "They walked through the Smoke, past cook fires being extinguished with shovelfuls of dirt; windows coming alight with candles and electric bulbs; and a handful of young uglies pursuing and escaped chicken." pg.245

Personification-"Tally looked away, trying to drown her uncanny pretty feelings in the sea of white weeds." pg.251

Simile-"But the image in her mind didn't give Tally the thrill it usually did; it just fell flat, like a song she'd heard too many times." pg.250

Does it require bravery to meet David's parents, why or why not?

Yes because Tally might feel guilty about meeting David's parents before Shay. Also, because they're the founders of the smoke. They're uglies and Tally doesn't like seeing old uglies.

Blog Post #30 "Suspicion"

Do you think Shay has a right to be jealous of Tally? Why or why not?

No. Tally didn't know much about Shay and David. Tally just thought of David's gift as a small present for her. Shay's probably upset because Tally seems to be more interesting than she is.

Tally received a gift from David in the chapter that is special. Have you ever received something that made others jealous as this gift did? Did your gift have a meaning behind it as Tally's had?
No. Not really. My gifts are just gifts that don't have much meanind behind it like Tally's.

Blog Post #29 "Hearthrob"

Why woul it have been easier for Tally to activate the pendant when she got to the smoke? Explain.

She wouldn't have gotten attached to the people. She would have never gotten a chance to feel being free. She would have never gotten to learn their ways and feel like she belonged.

Blog Post #28 "David"

If David's parents were doctors, Why do you think they ran away? Support your answer with textual evidence.

Maybe they found out something bad about the operation. They probably ran away because they feared they knew too much about a secret.

"Tally tired to get her mind to process his words." You mean, they never did the third operation? They still look middle, even though they're crumblies?"
"No, Tally. I told you: They're doctors."
A shock ran through her. This was more stunning than the felled trees or the the cruel pretties; as overwhelming as anything she'd felt since Peris had gone away."They reversed the operation?"
"Yes." pg.218

Blog Post #27 "Work"

Find an image of a skyline like the one Tally sees. Post it. What is beautiful about it? Is there anything ugly about it?

This image reminds me of the Skyline in New Pretty Town because in the book it describes New Pretty Town as an advanced city where there's many party towers and the lights are bright. This picture is so beautiful because the skyscrapers have many colors and it loooks so pretty at night.
